New Boyfriend Is Up

He’s tall, he’s smart, and he’s got a nose I want to devour like it’s made out of marshmallows.

Go read all about him at http://megwood.com, and then come back here to give me an AMEN.

    AMEN!

There are few men that I would go to the ends of the earth for and Nathan is one of them. I’m ecstatic that Castle got a second season. If anyone deserves to have a hit show it’s Nathan.

  2. Kim Says:

Yes!! Finally Nathan (along with his delectible, oh-so-yummy nose) gets the recognition he so justifiably deserves! Have you ever wondered, however so-briefly, if he really does have a little tattoo on his right hip? I know I have.

I also have to agree with the Jensen Ackles comment. Hm-m-m-m. Tasty.

  3. Smithee Says:

    AMEN!!!

I first became aware of Nathan Fillion when he was on ABC’s Two Guys, a Girl, and a Pizza Place. He played Traylor Howard’s boyfriend then husband. Needless to say, I was incredibly jealous of her. I also admire that he doesn’t disrespect One Life to Live or play down the fact that he was on it. (I never watched it, but I watch other soaps and hate when people who got their start on one act as though the genre is beneath them.) Loved Firefly, Serenity, and Dr. Horrible. I adore Castle, and can’t wait for the second season, not to mention the DVDs of this first season.

Great site. Still working my way through the archives. You have good taste in boyfriends.

  4. Rochelle Says:

I see your amen raise you a halleluiah. I love Nathan. I never considered licking him or his nose, however. As for Castle, I was pretty meh about it. I also second the Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place. A lame show that I liked especially Nathan. As I said in my Dollhouse comment, I was late to the Firefly band wagon and so I had forgotten my 2GG&PP love for Nathan and was stuck in the icky Caleb mode of Nathan. But Captain Tight Pants booted him right out of my memory. Well, I’m rambling and it’s midnight. Time to quit blog reading and go to sleep.

  5. Anonymous Says:

AMEN sister! But my first exposure was One Life to Live. Yeah I know, cheesy, but hey, he was so adorable!

  6. Hokie Thoughts Says:

From the Pizza Place to Captain Hammer and Castle, Captain Tightpants makes my bosom heave as well!

  7. Nai Says:

    AAAAAA-MEN!

    *said sanctimoniously*
However, I am an equal-opportunity admirer, and I like all his body-parts.

    heehee
    😉

  8. Leslie Says:

Is it possible you’ve not seen his PG-rated porn? It’s for people who enjoy the marginal acting and terrible technical aspects of porn, but hate all that sex stuff. And it’s by *Slither* director James Gunn.

    “Nailing Your Wife”: http://www.spike.com/video/pg-porn-pg-porn/3041858

I also recommend checking YouTube for talk-show appearances in which he talks about the elderly cat that came with his California real estate.

  9. Lorraine Says:

Meg – AMEN! You can have his nose (whatever floats your boat!) and I’ll take that great sense of humor. I’ll love him forever for Captain Tightpants! I love that character because it is a great mixture of sadness/menace/sarcasm/integrity and Fillion plays him perfectly. And Captain Hammer is such a wild ride.

And Leslie – oh yeah, those elderly cat stories! It does make you fall in love with him a little more.

  10. Lorraine Says:

Meg – I forgot I have a question. Is that the closest MacGuyver score that you’ve ever given?

  11. Liz Says:

Lorraine, I was wondering the same thing.

Meg, your write-up was so funny and good. I’ve almost gotten over my trauma about Nathan as “Evil Preacher Caleb.” I loved “Firefly” and “Serenity,” and enjoy “Castle” very much. And my husband does, too! Oh, and I loved “Dr. Horrible” too – but I must confess a LITTLE more sympathy for Neil Patrick Harris.

My eyes did light up in anticipation of that “Slither” movie; I didn’t know Nathan was in it. It’s going in my Netflix queue.

  12. gaylec Says:

Yeppers, that is one sexy nose alright.

The rest of him ain’t bad either!

  13. megwood Says:

I think Paul Gross’s MFS was slightly higher. But it’s definitely right on up there, Lorraine!

Leslie, PG porn with Fillion sounds hilarious! I will have to check that out for sure! Thanks for the link!

I had forgotten all about the pizza place thing (not to mention One Life to Live). Now I just love him EVEN MORE. Which, yesterday, did not seem possible!

    w00t.

  14. shelly Says:

If anyone gives you hell for loving the same guy who played evil preacher Caleb, just make them watch this Nathan interview and trust me, they will become a believer:

How sexy is a guy who is comfortable enough with his masculinity to wear a kilt on late night tv and even make fun of himself for doing it? Really, need I say more?

How do I love Nathan Fillion? Too many ways to count and some of them are already mentioned. But most of all, I love that he really (like everyone who works with him says) seems to be one of the nicest, if not the nicest, working actors in Hollywood. His co-stars have nothing but love for him and are great friends with him, he has a fantastic sense of humor that is razor sharp but never mean or potty-mouthed, and having seen him in Firefly, Waitress, and Castle, he truly is a very talented and versatile actor. I’m starting to wonder if he’s a robot because I honestly can’t think of a single negative thing about him and I can’t believe he is honestly that perfect in real life. The one thing that bums me out is that he has a girlfriend and will never be mine, *SOB*! 😉

  15. elspeff Says:

About fecking time!!!! Amen, halleluia and god bless you, missus.

  16. Hollie Says:

I can only say one thing:

    HUMMINA HUMMINA HUMMINA HUMMINA

  17. megwood Says:

Oh, Hollie. I love you for that.

“About fecking time” just made me laugh out loud, elspeff! 🙂

  18. Brie Says:

    SWEET!!

Thanks for the fantastic write-up. I laughed out loud at the part about all of his characters eventually becoming tight of pants…snorting a bit, even as I write this.

I do believe 2 Guys was my first intro. When Johnny outranked Berg in my affections, I knew I’d found a keeper!
He also played the obnoxious ex-boyfriend of Alicia Silverstone in Blast from the Past. He seemed particularly weak chinned in that one…how does he do that? He himself has commented on how his nose draws attention away from his lack of chin…ok, I’m laughing out loud again.

Anyway, MAJOR thanks for this write-up!! And for mentioning Drive. As I’ve mentioned before, my it brought about my favorite character description of all time, “Nathan Fillion stars as a rogue landscaper…”
ROGUE LANDSCAPER! Who cares if the show sucked, I will always have those two words to cheer me up when I am down.

  19. jo Says:

Oh, Yay! My day just got better. I’ve been a fan ever since his Joey Buchannan days, and he just gets better with age.

Have I mentioned before (yes, I know I have, but now seems like a perfect opportunity to bring it up again) that I’ve met him?

    You may hate me now.

And he is just as gorgeous and funny and charming in person as he seems like he would be when he’s not in person. Even if I hadn’t been madly in love with him before, the way he was especially nice to my daughter, who was 11 at the time, would have won me over.

  20. megwood Says:

    I so hate you now.

(But I love hearing that he’s funny and charming in person too. LOVE THAT MAN!!)

  21. Elizabeth Says:

I totally agree with you about the nose. And the eyes, and the smile, and the body… I could go one. Btw, did anyone ever find out what is tattooed on his thigh?

  22. Maria Says:

Hi Meg & co – long time reader, first time poster…… just had to comment on the current boyfriend…….

Waaaay back in 2005 my hubby woke me up at 1am to tell me about a fantastic new show he’d just watched – it was a sci-fi western. I was not impressed at being woken up (was pregnant, hormonal, morning sickness 24/7 and not sleeping terribly well either). He taped it for me, but I refused to watch it as hubby had annoyed me so much. HOW WRONG WAS I!!!!!!!

A couple of months later while shopping for a present for him I discovered Firefly was out on DVD, so being the kind wife that I am bought it for him. Being no longer hormonal and pregnant and no longer annoyed about being woken up months earlier I watched it with him. OH WOW – I was absolutely in love (no, correction, lust) with Captain Mal!!! It made getting up to the 1am and 4am feeds with bubs worthwhile, knowing that I had Captain Tightpants to keep me company. Kind of regretted bubs sleeping through the night from 8 weeks as I no longer had my Mal time……

I’d completely forgotten he was on 2 guys and a pizza place, haven’t seen the other shows, although Castle has just started on TV in the land Downunder, so I must remember to watch it.

    Great review as always.

  23. Haidee Says:

    *sigh*
you did forget to mention my favourite, well one of them, bits in Slither. Zombie Deer! For that alone I would watch it. We don’t get any of those shows in Aus, although Castle just started so I have to buys him when I sees him 🙂

    Now, where;s the Jayne review?

  24. Liz Says:

BOYFRIEND NEWS! I have some cool boyfriend news, but I don’t know where to post it. Please advise. (Hint: musicians AND actors).

  26. megwood Says:

Post it wherever you want to, or email it to me and I”ll post it as a post-post for you. Or just think really hard and see if that makes it post directly to my brain. Ready, GO.

  27. Liz Says:

Phooey! Sorry for the double posting; I don’t know what happened.

  28. Haidee Says:

did anyone else watch that Youtube clip and immediately need to know where Nathan lives so you can go out into his alley with your loud radio? Not just me, then?

  29. megwood Says:

Haidee, that just made me laugh out loud! Awesome.

  30. zini Says:

Love love love Nathan Fillion–and his nose. If you ever looked at a Greek or Roman statue, you would see that nose, no joke, google the David.

But (can you believe I’m saying “but”) we gals over on the C19 had a discussion once about how we prefer Nathan a little less bulked up (with muscles) than he was as Captain Hammer; Captain Reynolds’ slightly more lithe physique was more our cup ‘o tea. 😉

In interviews, he makes me laugh out loud, which is the biggest attraction in the world. I’m enjoying Castle as well, but I’m hoping to see a little more seriousness in his character as the series progresses–he had that perfect balance of menace (yum) and charm in Firefly that made his character irresistably attractive! Great great choice Ms. Wood! Keep em coming.

By the way, off subject, have you reviewed The Devil’s Backbone in the past? (I’ll check) incredible film.

  31. megwood Says:

zini, I COMPLETELY agree. I prefer Fillion less bulky too. He looked really strange at Capt. Hammer to me. Like he was wearing that Val Kilmer Batman suit under his tee. 🙂

I totally agree with you on Castle too — a little more seriousness is needed, especially given the gravity of the real-life crimes he’s begun to encounter. I think he’ll have an epiphany soon.

I don’t think I reviewed “The Devil’s Backbone” on this site, because it’s been years since I saw it. But it’s one of my FAVORITES. Damn, the Spanish make all the best horror movies! I did do a Boyfriend write-up on Eduardo Noriega, by the way, and I bet I talked about that movie in there. http://megwood.com/archive/eduardonoriegaf.html.

  32. Laura Says:

Oh, I’m late to this conversation. But, wait, you said two noses. Who has the OTHER nose?!!

P.S. Totally concur re: Nathan. I LOVE that man!

  33. megwood Says:

I’m so not answering that “who has the other nose” question.

  34. Liz Says:

    AMEN! And hallelujah.

Capt. Tightpants does indeed have a decidedly lickable nose.

Excellent write-up, as usual. I make the mistake of wandering away for a while, and then I come back and discover that you’ve written up Mal. Bad me!
