So You Think You Can Dance — Go Josh!

Gotta confess — the more I watch this one, the more I think my mondo crush on So You Think You Can Dance contestant Twitch is being replaced by an even mondo-er one on Joshua Allen. Anybody else got any favorites so far this year? (Note: the actual dance starts around minute 2 of this clip.)

I know! I probably watched it 3 or 4 times today alone myself. I love that move where he goes down and she pulls his leg and he just rolls back up — damn, wish I were that strong! That is the coolest! I’m not even annoyed by the song, even though by all rights, it ought to irritate the crap out of me (Jordin Sparks?!). Love it!!

  3. Sheila Says:

Love him!! So far I don’t know that I have a major crush on anyone but Joshua and Twitch are two favs.

Glad I’m not the only one out there who’s entire life revolves around SYTYCD!!! My daughter’s 8th grade graduation is this Wednesday and all I can think about is “gotta remember to record it, we’ll watch it at 7 or 7:30 on Thursday right before they do the vote-off show…”. Ye gods. Get a life, me!!

Meg, you know me, I LOVE everyone except the High School Hooker.

That dance and the Mia Michaels dance made me cry. 😦

  5. jo Says:

So, you think you can just waltz in and steal my boyfriend Joshua? I don’t think so.

(Hey – did you like how I worked in a dance reference?)

I’ve loved Joshua since his audition. He’s not technically the best (that would be Will) but I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone move like he did. We were floored.

  6. Marni Says:

Hey Meg, Um, yeah I bought the song from iTunes a couple of days ago. I can hardly believe I’m admitting that for all to read. I couldn’t stand to buy a Jordin Sparks anything … but Chris Brown is a pretty cool guy (saw him on Britney Spears VMA debaucle — he was the only good thing the entire night — knows how to put on a show and DANCE!) Looks like Dave’s going to start watching the show — I’m going to send him the link to Josh’s dance today!

  7. megwood Says:

SHUT UP! I bought the song off iTunes too!

What are we, TWINS or something?

(Note to other readers: Marni and I are, in fact, twins!)

  8. Sheila Says:

Yaaay, Susie is gone!! I thought Chris would go instead of Marquis but oh well. That dance with Twitchington made me all teary-eyed. Love them, love Joshua, love Mark and Chelsie….as Mary would say, “WAAAAAAAAAA!!!” Or is is “WOOOOOOO!!”?

  9. Liz Says:

For me, it’s “WAAAAAAH!” (she cried). I SO don’t follow this stuff! I feel very out of the loop. It’s not that I disrespect the show, or the people that watch it, but I’m much more interested in singing than in dancing. (It could be that I’m NOT a dancer, and I USED to be a singer – no, that doesn’t work, because I love figure skating, and I can’t do that AT ALL). Does anyone still watch “American Idol,” or is that just too “last year” – or years?

I’m so slow, I only just saw “Cloverfield,” hence the crying! I thought I’d post here, since the “Cloverfield” write-up has been up for a while, and this one is newer. I think I’m the only person who didn’t just love the movie. I had so much trouble following it, I had no energy left to be scared. In fact, the first time I ran it, I FELL ASLEEP! and had to stop it and go take a nap. Then I tried it again, and sort of got it, and sort of appreciated it, but it was still just too hard for me. It’s kind of depressing, because I think it’s more my problem than the movie’s. I didn’t have any difficulty with “motion sickness,” though!

One problem I had with the movie, which had nothing to do with the camera work, was that the “invaders” were never explained. I really prefer it when some kind of explanation is given in a movie like this (even if it’s a stupid one). When they don’t give one, I always think that either I was too stupid to figure it out, or that the writers copped out on us, and just didn’t bother to make any decision about what was going on.

Can anyone elucidate? Because if I’m being unfair to the movie, I’d like to know. I had high hopes for it, and now I’m disappointed!

  10. megwood Says:

Hey, Liz! I do think you’re being somewhat unfair about “Cloverfield,” and I’ll tell you why. The movie was filmed by a 20-something dude with a video camera, running for his life when some completely unfathomable creature attacked his city. Though the camera was periodically flashed towards a TV set with a news report that might drop a few hints here and then (first we hear about a ship in the harbor that got destroyed, for example — did the creature come from underwater?), the whole point of the movie is to show what might happen if THIS actually happened, in real time, from the perspective of someone caught up in the hoopla. Think about 9/11, for example — I’m fairly certain none of the people running through the streets of New York City after the WTC fell over knew what was actually going on. All they knew was that they needed to get the hell outta Dodge because something bad was going on.

To be honest, if they’d attempted to definitively explain the monster’s origins in “Cloverfield,” I would’ve thought that was completely unrealistic and lame, myself. Because those kids wouldn’t know what was going on. And neither would the military grunts on the ground helping to evacuate people, either. Any explanation was going to be unsatisfying anyway because the premise was so ridiculous (think of the origin of the killer bugs in “The Mist” for example — frankly, I would’ve preferred using my imagination on that one).

So, it wasn’t that the writers copped out, or didn’t bother to make any decisions. It’s that they wanted to be true to the movie itself — and in the movie, filmed in real time over a span of just a few hours, there was no way to tuck that information in without it being a total contrivance.

    Them’s my two cents!

OMW!! Did you see that samba?!?! The temperature in the room went up, and I literally lost the ability to speak.
    Adorable *and* sexy? I’m smitten.

  12. megwood Says:

Whew, yes! He is amazing! Or, as Mary Murphy would say,

  13. D-ray Says:
